Tirupati: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will offer Jalaharathi at the HNSS canal near Gundisettipalli on Monday as the state government plans to extend the Kuppam Branch Canal network to all 418 tanks in Kuppam constituency.
The proposed expansion, estimated to cost ₹439 crore, will cover tanks in Kuppam, Santhipuram, Gudupalle and Ramakuppam mandals. Officials prepared the proposals after conducting surveys in the four mandals following directions from the Chief Minister.
The plan follows the supply of Krishna water to the Kuppam Branch Canal last year. Water entered the canal from the Punganur Branch Canal on August 21, 2025 and reached the tail end at Paramasamudram tank on August 25. Naidu offered Jalaharathi at the tank on August 30.
The Kuppam Branch Canal starts at the 207.800-km point of the Punganur Branch Canal and runs for 131.2 km up to Paramasamudram tank. It has both lift and gravity sections, with three lift points, and is designed to carry 161 cusecs up to the tail end.
The canal was originally designed to supply water to 110 minor irrigation tanks in Kuppam and Palamaner constituencies and stabilise an ayacut of 6,300 acres. However, water was supplied to 133 tanks last year.
Under the proposed expansion, works covering 128 tanks in Ramakuppam are estimated to cost `101.83 crore. Another `78 crore has been proposed to supply water to 87 tanks in Santhipuram, while `63.57 crore has been proposed for 107 tanks in Kuppam mandal.
In Gudupalle, 96 tanks have been identified for connection to the system. The government also plans to convert Kallivanka tank into a reservoir. Works in the mandal are estimated to cost `207 crore.
The expansion is also being planned in view of increasing industrial activity at Pogurupalle in Gudupalle mandal. The government plans to use HNSS water to meet industrial requirements as well.
