Kuwait City: Kuwaiti air defence systems intercepted and neutralised a wave of incoming missile and drone threats on Wednesday after loud explosions were reported across several parts of the country amid rising tensions in the Gulf region.
In an official statement, the Kuwaiti Army’s General Staff confirmed that the blasts heard by residents were linked to defensive operations carried out by military units. The army said air defence systems were actively confronting hostile missile and drone attacks and clarified that any explosion sounds were the result of interception efforts.
The military subsequently issued a public warning, urging people not to approach or handle any debris, shrapnel, or unidentified objects that may have fallen to the ground, citing serious safety risks.
Ministry of Defence spokesperson Colonel Saud Abdulaziz Al-Otaibi advised citizens and expatriates to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious debris to emergency services through the 112 hotline.
He also urged the public to ignore rumours and rely only on official sources for information, while strictly following safety instructions. The Army’s General Staff reiterated the appeal, calling on everyone to cooperate with authorities to ensure public safety and security.
Meanwhile, regional media outlets carried unverified reports about the motive behind the attacks. Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB claimed the strikes targeted American military facilities in Kuwait, describing them as retaliation for what it called recent US actions in the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, and Qeshm Island.
According to IRIB, the attacks were launched after alleged “hostile actions” by the United States, resulting in American bases in Kuwait being struck.
The developments come amid escalating regional tensions and growing military friction between the United States and Iran.
