According to the latest reports, Kyle Busch’s No. 8 Chevrolet was shelved after his tragic death at 41. Earlier, when Kyle got admitted to a hospital, reports surfaced claiming that Austin Hill would replace Kyle in the No. 8 Chevrolet for the Coca-Cola 609 on May 24, 2026. A while back, Richard Childress Racing announced that the digit will be suspended in his honour until his 11-year-old son, Brexton, is ready to join NASCAR.

The decision to shelve Kyle’s No. 8 car was shared on May 22, 2026, and Busch’s team said that it will opt to use No. 33 at Charlotte Motor Speedway this weekend and beyond. Richard Childress Racing shared that no one can carry forward to the level that Kyle did. A while back, they wrote on X (formerly Twitter):

“Richard Childress Racing has elected to suspend use of the No. 8 and will run the No. 33 at Charlotte Motor Speedway and beyond. Kyle Busch was instrumental in the design of RCR’s stylised No. 8, and it has become synonymous with Kyle and an important symbol for his fans and the NASCAR industry. No one can carry it forward to the level that he did. The No. 8 is reserved and ready for Brexton Busch when he is ready to go NASCAR racing.”
