Singer-songwriter Lainey Wilson has documented her unbelievable journey to becoming a Grammy winner.

Lainey Wilson made her acting debut in the hit series Yellowstone.

Streamer Netflix has just released a new one-off documentary exploring the inspirational life of Lainey Wilson, a 33-year-old country singer from Louisiana.

Raised in a small town of 170 people, her father worked as a farmer while her mother was a schoolteacher.

Wilson developed a fascination with music from a young age as her family loved country artists like Buck Owens and Glen Campbell.

By her pre-teen years, Lainey Wilson was already writing her own songs and released an EP in 2006, at the age of 14.

Here is all you need to know about the star and her incredible journey.

She was a Hannah Montana impersonator

In high school, Wilson took a job impersonating Miley Cyrus’s alias, Hannah Montana.

Often booking her own shows, she performed at birthday parties, fairs, and festivals across Louisiana, Mississippi, and Arkansas.

She even performed for child cancer patients at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Speaking to People, Wilson explained: “Miley knows about my Hannah Montana journey, and I’m very aware of her Hannah Montana journey.

“Ours looked very different. I didn’t have the Malibu mansion, but I had a little portable sound system and a lot of birthday parties that I got to go sing at.”

She said Miley Cyrus “absolutely loves” that she impersonated Hannah Montana.

She lived in a camper trailer

Wilson graduated from high school and moved to Nashville in August 2011 in the hope of launching her music career.

She first lived in a camper trailer outside of a recording studio and the studio owner paid for her water and electricity to help make ends meet.

For several years, she played small shows and worked on her songwriting, before releasing her first self-titled album in 2014.

She made her acting debut in Yellowstone

Wilson joined season five of the Taylor Sheridan hit series Yellowstone, in which she played country musician, Abby.

She previously spoke to Express.co.uk about having her music featured in Yellowstone and how playing the role of Abby has opened up so many doors.

The star said: “To think a soundtrack can have that much of an impact on someone’s career is wild. So when Taylor Sheridan asked me to be a part of the show I knew this was going to be huge.

“It’s going to be an opportunity for people to put my voice to my face. I think that has been one of the biggest dots that has been connected so far, so it has changed a lot for us.”

Whilst she was filming the series, her dad Brian had been in hospital as she explained: “The doctors were telling us ‘This ain’t good, you pretty much need to tell him bye’.”

Not knowing whether her father would pull through meant she had a huge amount on her mind during the shoot, but she soldiered on and thankfully, her dad recovered.

She is engaged to an NFL star

In May 2023, it was confirmed the star in a relationship with former NFL quarterback Devlin “Duck” Hodges.

Wilson later revealed she and Hodges had been dating for over two years before the public knew about it.

In February 2025, the couple announced their engagement, with Wilson saying on social media: “4x4xU forever”.

The caption referred to her track “4x4xU” from her album, Whirlwind.
