Landon Donovan so stressed at end of USMNT World Cup win that his ‘fake hair was falling out’

The excitement of Wednesday’s 2-0 win for the U.S men’s national team was too much for Landon Donovan to handle.

The former USMNT star and current Fox soccer pundit was on the edge of his seat during the final 15 minutes of the match between the U.S. and Bosnia-Herzegovina, so much so that it was impacting him in a way nobody saw coming.

“I was so stressed the last 15 minutes that even my fake hair was falling out, so no more of that,” Donovan said jokingly on air on Fox’s postgame show from outside Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif.

The comment caused former USMNT teammate Clint Dempsey to chuckle.

Down to 10 men on the field for over 30 minutes after Folarin Balogun was given a red card in the second half, Bosnia put on the pressure late in the match as it attempted to keep its World Cup dreams alive on Wednesday night.

The United States was able to weather the storm, and Malik Tillman found the back of the net late in the match to seal the victory.

“They were a better team than Bosnia. More talented, better in the attacking and they had all the ball all the game,” Donovan also said about the USMNT’s performance. “Then real adversity. The Turkey game was a little adversity. This was real adversity. Rolled up their sleeves.

“Could have scored two goals with a man down, Christian [Pulisic’s] goal was called offside, but that shows you can go into a game now against Belgium, where maybe they have moments where they have all the ball, and you’re under a little pressure, and that builds confidence that they can defend and get out of it.”

The USMNT will advance to the Round of 16 to face Belgium on Monday night in Seattle.

The match is surely to be a close one, and Donovan might once again find himself feeling a bit stressed that his fake hair could come falling out.
