In case you forgot what LaVar Ball was up to, the famous — and outspoken — hoops dad is still around
And he’s still telling NBA teams to sign his sons, all of them, if they want to win.
The elder Ball’s latest salvo came after LaMelo Ball’s Hornets saw their season end in a lopsided play-in loss to the Magic on Friday.
LaVar Ball said afterward that in order to have more success next year, they need to add two of his other sons, and maybe fire head coach Charles Lee for not playing LaMelo enough.
“If you want to go to the playoffs, three Balls are better than one,” Ball said in a video Friday of adding [the Cavaliers’] Lonzo and LiAngelo — who left basketball in 2025 to focus on his rap career — to Charlotte’s roster. “I’m trying to explain to you all [and] I have to keep telling you: if you want to go far, you got to get all the Ball boys. The chemistry and the speed of the game is unmatched.”
And he also had some unsolicited advice for Lee.
“You’ve got to be a heck of a coach to coach Melo,” Ball said of his lone NBA son, who was fined after making a dirty play against Miami’s Bam Adebayo in Charlotte’s play-in win over the Heat.
“He’s a killer,” Ball added of his son. “You know what you do with a killer? You leave him in until the end. Don’t take him out till them suckers hit zero. And let it be known. He’s still trying to win. He could be down 40 [poonts], down 50, it don’t matter. It takes vision and risk, trust me, to be a champion.”
Ball didn’t approve of Lee taking out the star, even though the outcome had been decided.
“You better believe in your players, man,” Ball said. “That coach give up a little too early for me. I’m trying to tell you all. Now you got something to talk about. The big baller is trying to give you a recipe on how to be a champion. But if the head folks don’t want to make their move and get all the Ball boys in Charlotte, I’m trying to tell you yes, in the best chemistry playing their speed game.”
