Inter Milan bounced back from their derby defeat to AC Milan by returning to winning ways in Serie A with a 2-0 victory over Como.

Both Inter and Como tasted victory in the Champions League this week, though Inter’s win over Feyenoord was much less emphatic than the record-tying 9-1 victory Cesc Fabregas’ men enjoyed at Lens.

However, his free-scoring side were kept at bay at San Siro, where Pio Esposito put Inter ahead in the 12th minute as he turned home from Djed Spence’s low centre.

Marcus Thuram lashed home a second seven minutes later after Como failed to deal with another ball into the box, and that proved to be enough for Inter to take the points.

The win moved Inter within a point of league leaders Lazio, who were held to a 1-1 draw at Napoli.

Davide Frattesi put Lazio in front in the first half, but an own goal from Alfonso Pedraza secured a share of the spoils.

Milan built on their derby win by winning 2-1 at Genoa to move within five points of Lazio. Alphadjo Cisse and Christian Pulisic were on target in the first half before a late consolation for the hosts.

Juventus’ inconsistent season continued as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Fiorentina, Bremer’s second-half equaliser earning a point for the Bianconeri after they twice fell behind in Florence.

Elsewhere in Serie A, Atalanta won 1-0 at Monza.

Betis and Sociedad win in LaLiga, Leverkusen claim derby spoils

Barcelona re-established their three-point lead atop LaLiga by winning 2-1 at Atletico Madrid, while Real Betis and Real Sociedad each claimed valuable wins in their pursuit of Champions League football.

Betis were 2-0 victors at Elche thanks to late goals from Riquelme and Marc Bartra, and Sociedad beat Rayo Vallecano 1-0.

Villarreal left it late to see off Getafe 2-0, with the day’s other game between Celta Vigo and Levante ending 0-0.

In the Bundesliga, Aleix Garcia scored a stunning free-kick as Bayer Leverkusen won their derby with Cologne, his first-half curler and a second-half effort from Patrik Schick enough to claim an away win that moves Leverkusen up to fifth.

Third-placed Freiburg saw off Union Berlin 2-0, while Schalke are without a win in seven games after losing 2-1 at Hoffenheim.

Lille were the big winners of the day in Ligue 1, Nathan Ngoy’s decisive header giving them a 2-1 victory at Rennes that moved them second.

Lens’ nightmare week ended with a 2-1 home defeat to Marseille, Lyon were beaten 2-0 by Brest, and Monaco’s poor form continued as they conceded a 90th-minute equaliser in a 1-1 draw with Le Mans.

Nice claimed a fourth win in five, overcoming Angers 2-0 to move ahead of Monaco and Rennes and into sixth.

Le Havre are still awaiting their first win, Ligue 1’s bottom club enduring another difficult day as they lost 2-0 at home to Lorient.
