In the video, Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras takes off the plane smoothly, navigating the sky with complete ease. The video is now being circulated online as proof of how things can change in a matter of seconds, no matter how skilled someone is. Following the ATC audio leak and the crash video, many social media users had begun to criticize Nathalia for being inexperienced, while also passing along misogynistic comments about female pilots.
However, it was soon revealed that she was not flying the Learjet N722BD on November 1, 2026, and was the co-pilot of the plane. The old video further changed the masses’ reaction towards what happened, with a user saying, “It looks like she knew what she was doing. She is in the first officer’s seat and is flying the plane. The captain has duties to monitor instruments, communications, etc. In the end, it’s clearly seen that she activates the autopilot, a standard procedure after takeoff.”
Another X user came to her defense and said, “Why are people shitting on her? Stabilizer wing broke off; she was co-pilot; there was nothing they could do. Every 20-year vet starts off as a young, bright-eyed young pilot. RIP.” A comment read, “What people don’t realize is that she didn’t scream because she was inexperienced; the fear was because she knew there was nothing they could do.”
Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras’ sister allegedly asks social media users not to repost the ATC audio of her sister’s last moments
Recently, a post started going viral online; the original post was allegedly by Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras’ trainee asking social media users to stop sharing the ATC video of the co-pilot’s last moments. The post was reportedly reshared by Nathalia’s sister Giulia with the caption asking everyone to give the family some privacy. She expressed her pain and shared that she didn’t want to hear her sister’s last screams or see the simulations of what happened in the final moments before the flight crashed.
However, the authenticity of the post cannot be verified. Previously, her mother, Camila, and stepfather, Thiago Corteleti, confirmed her identity to the NYP, which reported that she had been working as a commercial pilot for just nine months. Camila was heartbroken by what happened and expressed her grief, saying she always feared something like this could happen. She was quoted as saying:
“I wanted her to live her dream, but I knew that her dream was going to be the thing that would take her away from me. I knew that a plane was gonna take her away from me. I always knew it, but I was so proud of her. I know she was living her dream.”
Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras’ stepfather, Thiago Corteliti, also revealed that the young pilot had accumulated 1,300 hours of flying experience. He recalled that she had exchanged messages with her boyfriend, Justin, around 10 minutes before the aircraft crashed. The Learjet 60 took off from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas and headed to North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas when it crashed in Palm Beach County on Sunday afternoon (local time), according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
