Sunderland lost their 100% record in the Europa League after a late goal cost them another victory in Poland.
A first senior goal for Tymur Tutierov after just 78 seconds put the Black Cats on course for a third win in the league phase.
But the hosts improved after the break and got the point they deserved as substitute Leo Bengtsson rifled in a leveller.
Sunderland are bottom of the Premier League but well placed in Europe after moving onto seven points.
They led instantly after a terrible pass out by goalkeeper Mateusz Lis was picked up by Nilson Angulo who crossed to give Tutierov a simple header.
The match was so open with both sides trading chances on the break, with the best falling to Malick Fofana who hammered a shot against the post.
Patrik Walemark dragged wide at the start of the second half as Poznan went for it.
Sub Bengtsson sliced wide at the far post but was clinical later as a corner was not dealt with to smash in their first goal in the competition this season.
Half chances continued to come at either end as the sides shared 41 shots on goal but nobody could find a winner.
With home games against Dinamo Zagreb and Jagiellonia in November, Sunderland are well placed.
