The Lions will look to get back above .500 after a shaky start to the season when they travel to Arizona to face the Cardinals on Sunday afternoon.

If the first month of Detroit’s season is any indication, there should be plenty of points at State Farm Stadium in this game.

All four Lions games have gone over the points total this season, with their explosive offense repeatedly being forced to compensate for one of the league’s worst defenses.

They rank sixth in EPA per play and third in offensive success rate, but dead last in opponent EPA per play and 29th in defensive success rate, plus an NFL-worst 127 points allowed.

The Cardinals have shown they can score against quality competition, putting up 30 points against the 49ers in Week 3 before scoring 24 against the Giants last weekend.

The Lions’ secondary, in particular, has been atrocious, and quarterback Jacoby Brissett has continued to show he can get plenty of yards through the air, despite giving the ball away more than his coaches would like.

Their defense hasn’t offered much resistance, either, providing a tempting opportunity for Over bettors, despite this being one of the highest totals of the weekend.

Arizona has allowed 31, 36, and 36 points during its three-game losing streak.

The Lions should be able to handle their defensive unit, and its own defensive problems give the Cardinals a strong chance to contribute enough to push this game into the 50s.

Betting on the NFL?

Even with a lofty number, neither defense has provided much reason to expect a sudden slowdown.

The play: Over 53.5 (-110, DraftKings Sportsbook)
