The HMWS&SB said it had set up six distribution centres for devotees and stocked 8.5 lakh drinking water sachets and 25,000 bottles of 250 ml drinking water for devotees attending the Bonalu festivities at the Ujjaini Mahankali Temple on Sunday.
Sixty personnel supplied water to devotees waiting in queues. Arrangements were made to supply additional drinking water, the board said.
HMWS&SB managing director Ashok Reddy directed officials to take preventive measures to ensure there are no sewerage overflows on major roads or in the vicinity of the temple.
Another report said the TGSRTC operated 175 special buses on Sunday to the temple, and the arrangements would be in place on Monday, when the Rangam would be held with an Oracle predicting the future. These buses were operated from the Kacheguda, Hitec City, Nampally, Secunderabad and Cherlapally railway stations, as well as the MGBS, Jubilee bus station.
Meanwhile, the city police ordered the closure of liquor outlets in parts of Secunderabad under the Market and Gopalapuram police limits in the Malkajgiri zone, till 6 am on August 4. The restrictions have been imposed as part of the security and law-and-order arrangements for the annual Bonalu celebrations.
