What will Bryson DeChambeau do next?

The long-term answer still evades many in the professional golf landscape but the two-time major has issued his first statement since the official shutting down of LIV Golf admitting to saying “things that didn’t help” while pledging to approach the next part of his career “with humility and respect.”

“I’m not going to rewrite the last four years. I made a decision I believed in, and I’m grateful for what came with it: playing in front of fans new and old around the world who rarely got to see the best players at home,” wrote DeChambeau, four days after LIV Golf revealed plans to go ahead with the liquidation phase of its bankruptcy.

“The record crowds in Adelaide and Johannesburg will stick with me for the rest of my life,” he continued. “I believed this game could reach more people, in more places in a new way. I still believe that. And I gave it everything I had to keep team golf alive.”

DeChambeau, who has been linked to a full exemption on the DP World Tour in 2027, will tee off in South Africa at next month’s Nedbank Golf Challenge. His last competitive tournament was at the LIV finale three months ago in Indianapolis, where he finished T-3.

He thanked LIV staff and crews, as well caddies and players in his statement. The 33-year-old DeChambeau was the captain of the Crushers GC.

He noted that Paul Casey, Charles Howell III, and Anirban Lahiri “bet their careers on this.”

“I still believe in team golf. It may look different in the future, but I still believe it’s essential to growing the game,” DeChambeau wrote. “Arnold Palmer said no player is bigger than the game, and I want to acknowledge that, along the way, I’ve said some things that didn’t help. Whatever comes next, I’ll approach it with humility and respect for the people who carried this game long before me.”
