Liverpool are facing an attacking crisis after Cody Gakpo joined Alexander Isak in returning to Merseyside from international duty due to injury.
Netherlands winger Gakpo was on the receiving end of a heavy tackle from Serbia midfielder Sasa Lukic in the 12th minute of the game in Belgrade last night and limped off shortly afterwards for more treatment on his left ankle.
He underwent scans this morning after which it was decided he would not be able to participate in the Dutch’s remaining games in this window, against Greece and Serbia.
Liverpool return to Premier League action on Sunday, October 11 when they host Manchester City at Anfield.
Boss Andoni Iraola will be hoping Gakpo will be fit after watching Isak sustain a minor injury when away with Sweden.

Isak played the full 90 minutes in the Swedes’ 2-1 win over Romania on Friday, scoring the opening goal, but it was then revealed he had suffered a thigh problem.
Sweden boss Graham Potter said: “He’s got a small problem with his thigh. It’s not a big one but because of the amount of games we’ve got in a small space of time, he won’t be able to make those.
“Not a big one, but frustrating for him, and obviously for us.”
Isak endured a miserable first season at Liverpool following his big-money move from Newcastle but has started the new campaign well, scoring four times in five Premier League games.
