Month Long Art Festival Living Temple Chapter 2 by Ekchitra Art Gallery Opens: Highlights Include Over 100 art works celebrating Timeless Indian Heritage; 32 feet long scroll; Limited Edition MS Amma Saree Showcase by Aikyatha and Month Long Event Calendar
EkChitra presents Living Temple II, the second edition of its cultural initiative celebrating India’s enduring traditions of art, craft, sculpture, architecture and performance. EkChitra Founder Annapurna Madipadiga shares, For Living Temple Chapter 2, we bring together artists, craftspeople and contemporary practitioners to create a dialogue between India’s ancient knowledge systems and contemporary creative expression.”
Inspired by the temple as a space where art, knowledge, craftsmanship and community converge, Living Temple II features works by over 30 artists and practitioners, monumental installations, performances, workshops and curated conversations. The exhibition approaches heritage as a living practice that continues to evolve through new ideas, interpretations and artistic forms.
Speaking about her experience, Shilpa Reddy said, “I feel fortunate to have been part of both editions of Living Temple. When I visited the first edition, I did not know what to expect, but I came away overwhelmed by the experience.”
“The second edition has given me even more to absorb. The 32-foot scroll by Chennai artist Nagendra Babu was extraordinary. To think of an artist continuing to draw, allowing one form to flow into another, gives me goosebumps. I find myself wondering about the state of mind from which such work emerges,” she added.
Reflecting on the Aikyatha showcase, she said, “The collection of sarees associated with M.S. Subbulakshmi was another beautiful encounter. To receive a small gift from that collection felt humbling.”
Participating artists include Amar Ramesh, Anupama Choudary, Aryan Patil, Debasish Das, Geru, Himmat Gayri, Jai Khanna, Janardhana Rao Havanje, K. G.
