Los Angeles Rams legend LeRoy Irvin dead at 68

Former Rams cornerback LeRoy Irvin, a two-time Pro Bowler, has passed away at 68 years old, according to his ex-teammate and Pro Football Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson.

Dickerson, who played with Irvin for five seasons in his historic Rams career, wrote on his Instagram page on Thursday that Irvin died recently, and he was “devastated to hear about” the news.

“Leroy wasn’t just a lockdown corner and a fierce competitor on the field; he was a true friend and a great man who always brought incredible energy,” Dickerson said. “Rest in peace, my brother. Sending my thoughts and prayers to the Irvin family and all of Rams Nation.”

In his post, Dickerson shared a photo of him and Irvin smiling while the two were at an event thrown by Dickerson’s foundation.

Irvin joined the Rams in 1980 after the team took him with the 70th overall pick in the draft. He went on to play a total of 11 seasons for Los Angeles, starting 104 games.

He finished his career with one season in Detroit.

Irvin compiled 35 interceptions during his time in the NFL and was named a Pro Bowler and an All-Pro on two separate occasions.
