Woody Allen’s second wife, Louise Lasser, has sadly died aged 87 at her home in Manhattan, New York.
The TV star died on Monday July 6 of natural causes her friend Susan Charlotte told The Hollywood Reporter.
Her career started on Broadway with the musical “I Can Get It for You Wholesale” in 1962. But Louise was best known as the famous movie director, Woody Allen‘s first leading lady and second wife.
Louise and Woody met in 1962 while on a double date with different partners. They began dating and married in 1966. But what brought Louise into stardom was her lead role on the 1976-77 series Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman. The show was a low-key yet cutting parody of soap operas that skewered American consumerism.
She earned an Emmy nomination for her role in the series in the “Special Classification of Outstanding Program and Individual Achievement” category.
Younger audiences might recognise her from her recurring role in seasons 3 and 4 of HBO’s “Girls,” as the artist Beadie, who spends time with Jemima Kirke’s character, Jessa.
Just four years after they wed they divorced. However she continued to play in films produced and directed by him. The relationship unravelled because they both cheated during the relationship, Woody revealed.
Woody is now married to Soon-Yi Previn, who was his ex-wife,, Mia Farrow’s adopted child.
Her last credited film role was in the 2022 film “Funny Pages,” a dark comedy produced by the Safdie brothers.
