Reality star Louise Thompson has issued an apology over controversial comments she made about children who are not potty trained but faced further backlash from followers
Louise Thompson has issued an apology after she laughed at children who are not potty trained. The former Made In Chelsea star, 36, was met with a huge backlash after following the latest episode of her He Said She Said podcast, where she discussed the issue that some children are starting school without being potty trained.
She told fiancé Ryan Libbey: “One in four children are sent to school before they are potty trained, which means their teachers are having to change their nappies and then wipe their bums.”
In response Ryan, who had also appeared on the popular E4 show chimed in adding: “That’s a raw deal”, to which she continued: “Isn’t that quite full on?” Louise was seen laughing as Ryan said: “Alright you’ve got a large number of kids in reception who’ve got nappies on and they can’t feed or drink themselves.”

She added: “Maybe its a bit of a cop out they’re like, ‘Oh my child’s crying and they’re being a bit difficult, I can’t be bothered with the hassle so I’m just going to take the easy route.'”
Louise, who is mother to four-year-old Leo-Hunter, then suggested that parents were too “distracted” by phone screens to put time and effort into potty training their children.
In issuing a huge apology to her followers, the parents acknowledged that she failed to mention children with special educational needs in the original clip and has since removed it from her podcast.
The podcast’s official Instagram page shared a comment underneath the most recent post, which read: “In a previous clip we included a conversation around potty training based on recent stats and our own lived experience. This however did not include the very important reference to SEN children and families which was an oversight so we removed the clip to avoid further offence. It’s an important topic we are very keen to learn more about.”
But even the apology did not go down well with some followers, with one raging: “Removing the video and this comment does nothing to justify what you’ve said. You have NO idea what you’re talking about. I have three children with special needs who weren’t toilet trained before starting school.
“To say its lazy parenting is diabolical. You have no clue. To post about your medical issues and expect people to give you sympathy when you can’t even open your mind to something other than a statistic is laughable. Shame on you both.”
Another said: “Regardless of your intention, a pinned comment essentially trying to take it back isn’t enough. The tone of your voice, the eye rolls, it was a very uncomfortable watch because it wasn’t funny and yet you found it hilarious which I feel has shown your true character.”
A third wrote: “I think you need to do a whole post of an apology, say sorry and further explain why and how you thought the comments made were necessary rather than one small comment after the hurt you’ve distributed through humour yesterday to a lot of families that are trying their absolute hardest to help their children
Despite this, others believed that Louise did have a point with what she was trying to say even if it was not executed in the right way. One said: “The point being, it is happening. Children are going to school who are developing normally but lack the training and it’s not fair for teachers to have to teach this.”
Immediately after the podcast was released, Louise was met with backlash from fans who were offended so she has now issued an apology and explained that she should have acknowledged children with SEN.
A listener said: “As a fan of Louise I find this clip incredibly disappointing. Given how she so openly voices her own early struggles with parenting and medical needs to create empathy and understanding to those in HER situation, yet so easily generalises the causes of children not being able to toilet independently on lazy parents while chuckling with her partner about it.”
They added: “While he then (backed up with his 4.5 years parenting experience) lists a number if privileges (including not having to be career driven) that allows him to be available at all times for his child… all while relying on an audience of families that include parents of SEND children, families on long NHS waiting lists for help, families that work all hours to provide in this economy that are doing all they can for their families…far from lazy.”
