Child behavioural expert Amanda Jenner has revealed exactly how Louise Thompson and her husband’s recent comments about un-potty-trained children in Reception classes made her feel.
The former Made In Chelsea star issued an emotional apology last month after the backlash she received over comments about potty training made by her and husband Ryan Libbey on the topic.
Speaking on their podcast He Said, She Said, the couple spoke about a statistic that claims one in four children are sent to school before they are fully potty trained. Louise admitted the statistic “shocked” her before laughing when Ryan said “that’s a raw deal” for the teacher who has to deal with it.

The interaction, which some felt was mocking, sparked huge backlash from followers, with people pointing out different reasons children may still be in nappies, including Special Education Needs.
Louise subsequently took to social media platforms to apologise and explain her intention wasn’t to offend anyone, assuring she has “tremendous admiration” for mothers struggling.
She told followers: “The first thing I want to say is that I am just so sorry that I have upset anybody and I mean that from the bottom of my heart.”
Now author and potty-training specialist Amanda Jenner has shared her true feelings about the unfortunate episode.
“I was very upset that she actually did that”, she told the Mirror. “I appreciate that she apologised, but I’d have expected better of her. I mean, personally what disappointed me was the laughing. I just thought that the big cackle was like she was taking the p*** out of the children.

“It felt a bit Mean Girls. It upset me all day after I heard it. I just thought, you’re a mum, you should know better, and it was mum shaming. Absolutely nobody knows how hard, or otherwise, it is for any individual parent.
“We should all hold each other high. You know, it is not the easiest job in this world to bring up a child, as we all know. I have been an expert working with families, not just toilet training, for 25 years. I could not get my daughter to go to school for a year, so does that mean I am a bad parent?
She added, “In the SEN community, everyone went absolutely crazy, and I do not blame them. They are like, well, would you laugh at your child for not walking on time? It was just wrong.”
Jenner invented the award-winning My Carry Potty, which is sold in 30 countries. She is also a regular toddler expert on ITV and creator of the Potty Training Academy, which provides resources for parents and over 300 nursery schools to help them in their settings.
