Nobody seemed to buy that Leavitt, who was upgraded to questionable Thursday, was actually going to miss this massive clash between Kiffin’s new team and his former one in Oxford.

However, it is Blake Baker’s defense that makes the Tigers a threat to do big things this season.
LSU leads the country in yards per play allowed (2.5) and has allowed an average of 18.5 rushing yards per game. Clemson and Louisiana Tech aren’t going anywhere this year, but those numbers are ridiculous, and they’re part of a trend in Baton Rouge.
The LSU defense has improved in each of Baker’s first two seasons, and it looks like it could be one of the nation’s best in 2026.
The Rebels are no slouches with the ball and nobody knows better than Kiffin how quarterback Trinidad Chambliss and running back Kewan Lacy can wreck a game, but they’ll need to be close to perfect in this contest not only because they’re facing this LSU defense but to also keep pace with the Tigers’ offense.
Ole Miss struggled to slow down Louisville, a good team, but nowhere near the level of LSU, in Week 1, allowing 38 points and 6.9 yards per play, so I have my doubts they’ll keep a lid on Kiffin’s Bayou Bengals on Saturday.

If they can’t do that, Chambliss, Lacy, and the Ole Miss attack will need to do something really special against Baker’s tip-top defense.
