'Maa Inti Bangaaram' Review, Samantha Shines, But Outdated Writing And Story Drags The Film Down

Samantha Ruth Prabhu has been absent from the big screen for a very long time. Except for Praveen Kandregula’s Subham, where she made a special appearance in 2025, the actress has seemingly become more careful with her movie choices. People even believe that this was possibly a result of what happened with Shaakuntalam and Kushi at the box office in 2023.

After a gap of three years, Samantha has made a comeback with the Telugu film, Maa Inti Bangaaram. Marketed as an action-drama, the movie clearly proves that the actress can still appear powerful on screen, as she did a few years ago in The Family Man Season 2. Unfortunately, it is the writing and the storyline that are going to raise a lot of questions about such a long break for Samantha. The real thing here is whether she deserved something better than this. The answer is yes. But why? Keep reading!

What is the story all about?

Maa Inti Bangaaram

The main focus of the entire storyline is on everything that happens in the life of Samantha Ruth Prabhu’s character, ‘Swarna.’ The lady appears normal and has come to a village to attend a family wedding. The village is the home of her in-laws, and she is accompanied by her husband. ‘Swarna’ attempts to reconnect with her in-laws as she and her husband tied the knot years ago, going against his parents.

A happy ending is seemingly on the way for ‘Swarna’ when the real trouble arrives for her in the form of a gang. The group is looking for a woman named ‘Jhansi.’ It is then revealed that ‘Swarna’ used to work for a man named ‘Karuna’ years ago and left him after finding out everything about his real face. ‘Swarna’ survived under different identities over the years until she married and settled down. ‘Karuna’ is aiming to teach a lesson to ‘Swarna’ after returning from prison, which leads to the central conflict of the film.

Samantha Ruth Prabhu is the biggest highlight of Maa Inti Bangaaram

Maa Inti Bangaaram

Samantha Ruth Prabhu is the only person who brings a lot of energy to Maa Inti Bangaaram. She has been perfectly portrayed as a woman who can go to any lengths to save those who are close to her, irrespective of the fact that she is herself living a very simple life. While she is intelligent, she is a very different woman compared to what anyone’s dream is when it comes to a perfect housewife. She specifically owns the screen in terms of action scenes, which have been well-designed and well-shot.

Maa Inti Bangaaram has a very basic screenplay that does not work

Maa Inti Bangaaram

The makers have clearly tried to bring a fresh presentation to a story that does not have a lot of scope. However, it is the screenplay that hardly has any good moments for the audience. The film has a lack of surprising elements, making a lot of things predictable, and it can even take anyone’s interest away from the screen. The dialogues are not up to the mark, and the same thing can be said for the editing, where trimming the length could have saved the film from sinking. This is surprising, considering that Raj Nidimoru has written the story.

The writing is one of the biggest reasons why the characters that had a scope to shine remain in the backseat. The script’s entire focus is on Samantha, and even Diganth Manchale, who plays her husband, has a role that has nothing much to contribute to the film. Just like Diganth, there are many other characters that hardly get a chance to leave an impression.

Maa Inti Bangaaram works to some extent due to a few good moments in the first half

Maa Inti Bangaaram

Maa Inti Bangaaram has a story that has been attempted many times in the past. There is a lack of freshness. The villain and his actions become predictable at one point, and things end the way anyone would expect them to. The commercial treatment works in certain portions. However, the film fails to connect emotionally, specifically the past of the main character, which might look unconvincing to a lot of people.

But the best things are reserved only in the first half. While the story takes time to build up and explode on screen, the initial portions of the film feature a few moments that will bring a smile to everyone’s faces. This includes a scene where the leading lady asks her friend to help with cooking so that she can leave an impression on the family. The second half completely focuses on the face-off between the good side and the bad side, which appears very outdated and ordinary.

Maa Inti Bangaaram

Overall, Maa Inti Bangaaram is a film that can be watched to celebrate the return of Samantha Ruth Prabhu in a leading role in Telugu cinema after a long time. However, the movie lacks novelty when it comes to the storyline, which tries to entertain and make audiences emotional, but fails to achieve both targets in the end.
