BHOPAL: The Madhya Pradesh high court has issued notice to the state government over the alleged sale of government land near the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain in MP to a firm linked to local BJP MLA Chintamani Malvya.
A division bench of Justices Subodh Abhayankar and Alok Awasthi of Indore bench of the Madhya Pradesh high court, in its ruling, said that ‘Notice to be issued to the respondents and the matter to come back in six weeks.’
The court’s observation came in response to a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by the local Congress corporator Rajendra Kuwal.
The petitioner alleged that 45,000 sq ft of government land, as recorded in 1950 revenue records, was sold to Utopia Hotel and Resorts Pvt Limited in Ujjain on March two at Rs 3.82 crore by misrepresenting the land as private land.
Ujjain MLA Malviya is a partner in the firm.
The Congress leader said that the land is being used currently as a parking area for the temple devotees and claimed that the real estate property would cost at least Rs 12 crore.
According to him, a complaint in this regard was also lodged with the chief secretary, the Lokayukta and the Economic Offence Wing of Madhya Pradesh police earlier.
The Congress leader claimed that 1.877 hectares in Ujjain was listed in revenue records in 1950 as government land.
Later, the lands were sold to the private individuals without valid judicial or revenue orders, leading to sale to the firm linked to the BJP MLA, the petitioner claimed.
The BJP MLA said that he has done nothing wrong and the court will decide the matter.
He called it a ‘political conspiracy’.
