Madonna has spoken out about the missing vintage costume she wore to perform at Coachella earlier this year, admitting she was “disturbed” after someone helped themselves to the outfit backstage

Madonna has admitted she was left “disturbed” after a treasured vintage outfit disappeared following her appearance at Coachella, revealing the costume has still not been returned.
The 67-year-old pop icon made the revelation while speaking to Graham Norton on a new BBC programme, months after appealing for the missing items to be handed back.
Madonna joined Sabrina Carpenter during the singer’s second headline performance at the California festival earlier this year, taking to the stage in a vintage purple corset dress. But after the show, the outfit vanished from her dressing room.
Soon after the performance, Madonna took to Instagram to ask for help tracking down the missing pieces, which included a jacket, corset and dress, even offering a reward for their safe return.
Asked by Norton whether she’d managed to recover the costume, Madonna replied: “Nope, it’s very naughty.”
She explained that the outfit had been taken from backstage, before reflecting on the chaotic atmosphere at one of the world’s biggest music festivals.
“I think Coachella is a… It’s a very distracting environment. There’s a lot going on.
“Somebody found (the costumes) and helped themselves.”
The singer admitted the disappearance stayed with her for days because of the sentimental and historical value of the garments.
“I was very disturbed by it for a couple of days, because they’re historical,” she said.
Despite the setback, she had nothing but praise for working alongside Sabrina Carpenter, saying the collaboration came together naturally after the Espresso star invited her to join the set.
The pair performed Madonna classics Vogue and Like A Prayer , while also introducing fans to their new duet, Bring Me Love , which features on Madonna’s upcoming album Confessions II.
The record is due for release on July 3 and serves as the follow-up to her Grammy-winning 2005 album Confessions On A Dancefloor.
The singer, born Madonna Ciccone, is also rumoured to play Glastonbury in 2027 as part of her promotion for the new album. The iconic singer told the BBC she will be doing promo tours “for a while” now as her LP comes out next week.
But she then added: “and then in the summertime something bigger.” Show host Graham Norton then sounded animated and said: “That sounds really exciting and good, and I think I know what you’re on about. Is it in this country?” Madonna then became coy and replied: “It could be. Why do you have to know everything?”
The Mirror approached Madonna’s publicist regarding the comments and the prospect of her playing Glastonbury. They said there were “no definite touring plans” and that anything else was “speculation”.
Previously Madonna was strongly linked to being one of the headliners at Glastonbury Festival in 2024, but talks were said to have broken down in February of that year after months of negotiations. She did not end up appearing and has never played the festival, despite spending a lot of her time in the UK.
Speaking to Graham Norton on the BBC for a special show to promote her new album, Madonna also spoke about how she fell in love with London when she was shown the “galleries and cocktail bars”. And she confirmed one gig she will definitely be playing – the half time show at the World Cup Final.
She said: “I’m just a really big football fan, and it’s always been my dream…they never had a half time[show]. So I have been bugging and like harassing my manager for over a year about it.”
She said fans would “find out when you get there” in terms of what songs she would play.
