PERAMBALUR: Perambalur Collector F. Abdul Razick has called upon people to utilise the government’s subsidy schemes to instal solar power systems in their homes, thereby reducing electricity expenses and contributing to environmental protection.
The Collector made this appeal while inaugurating a solar power awareness camp for the public on installing rooftop solar power systems in households, at Perambalur, on Tuesday.
He said under the scheme, both the Central and state governments provide subsidies for installing solar panels in homes and the Union government provides a subsidy of Rs. 30,000 for 1 kW, Rs. 60,000 for 2 kW and Rs. 78,000 for 3 kW and above; similarly, the state government provides a subsidy of Rs. 5,000 for 1 kW, Rs. 10,000 for 2 kW and Rs 22,000 for 3 kW and above.
Under the scheme, the Collector said immediate loan facilities were also provided through banks to set up rooftop solar panels.
The eligible subsidy amount under the scheme will be directly credited to the consumer’s bank account within 7 to 30 days from the completion of the solar project works.
A 1 kW solar panel can generate 4 to 5 units of electricity per day. As a result, consumers can recover their investment in a very short period.
For example, a family using 400 units of electricity in a two-month consumption cycle usually pays Rs. 1,125 to the electricity board; however, after installing the solar panel, the amount they need to pay is only Rs. 206, thereby saving Rs. 919.
Similarly, those who use 500 units can pay just Rs. 476 instead of the usual Rs. 1,719, saving Rs. 1,240. Those who use 600 units can pay only Rs. 1,241 instead of Rs. 2,736, saving Rs. 1,495, he added.
The Collector also watched the short film to educate the public across the Perambalur district about the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (Prime Minister’s Solar Rooftop Free Electricity Scheme), which was broadcast via the state-of-the-art electronic video vehicle of the information and public relations department.
Subsequently, he flagged off the advanced electronic vehicle, which will travel throughout the district to ensure that all residents of the Perambalur district become aware of this scheme.
