Malik Nabers is a Giants Week 5 question mark after missing practice

The Giants’ top three offensive weapons are on the injury report, and receiver Malik Nabers appears to be more in jeopardy than the others.

Nabers (knee) did not participate in Wednesday’s practice, while tight end Isaiah Likely (knee/groin) and running back Cam Skattebo (shoulder) were limited. Skattebo was in a red noncontact jersey.

“A little sore,” Nabers said.

Nabers is coming off his best game of the season — six catches for 112 yards and a touchdown on seven targets — but made it clear to quarterback Jameis Winston and head coach John Harbaugh during the game that he wanted to be more involved in the second-half play-calling.

Of course, to get more targets Sunday against the Commanders, Nabers has to be on the field.

And he can’t guarantee that will be the case — not because of the shoulder that he banged up landing after a contested catch against the Cardinals but because of the knee that underwent reconstructive surgery in September 2025.

“We’ll see how the next day goes, but through the week I’ll usually be sore,” Nabers said. “But this one was kind of a little bit more sore. But I always continue to fight through it.”

Nabers and close friend Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels have both had a “tough” year of “ongoing” injuries but are looking forward to catching up.

“They kind of told me getting back into this football form … there’s going to be up days, there’s going to be down days, there’s going to be things I have to work through,” Nabers said. “Attacking it head-on and just trying to get through this so I can play.”

Other nonparticipants included DL Chauncey Golston (neck), RB Najee Harris (personal reasons), S Chauncey Golston (concussion) and LT Andrew Thomas (groin).

Golston is getting second opinions on what “could be” a long-term injury, Harbaugh said.

Harris is expected back Thursday.

Thomas is in a weekly routine of not practicing until the end of the week as a form of body maintenance.

QB Jake Haener was signed to the 53-man roster despite having two practice-squad game-day elevations available. Carrying three QBs allows the Giants to designate either Haener or J.J. McCarthy as the emergency third-stringer and keep him inactive unless both Winston and the second-stringer are unable to return to the game. If Haener were still on the practice squad, the Giants would have had to activate all three quarterbacks among their 46 game-day players.

So, signing Haener essentially allows the Giants to get an extra backup at another position — and a core special-teamer — into the game.
