Man arrested after 40 people caught in suburban soccer brawl

Police have charged a man from Greenacre following a brawl, reportedly involving up to 40 people, at a soccer match in Sydney’s south-west on Saturday.

About 3.30pm, emergency services responded to reports of a fight at an under-17s boys soccer match in a park on Iluka Street, Revesby.

NSW Ambulance officers treated an 18-year-old man at the scene before he was taken to Liverpool Hospital where he received further treatment for injuries including a bite to his back.

Bankstown police said they were told the fight broke out between players when a number of spectators entered the field of play.

On Sunday, Bankstown police arrested a 47-year-old man from Greenacre. He was charged with affray, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. He was granted conditional bail and will appear in Bankstown Local Court on June 25.

No further arrests were made but inquiries are continuing.
