According to investigators, a witness called emergency services at around 7:20 a.m. from Kamidaira in Fussa, saying, ‘There is a person with a hammer. One person has been hit. Please come quickly.’
The suspect, believed to be in his 30s or 40s, allegedly struck the boy near the temple with a hammer, causing injuries.
The boy suffered bleeding and was taken to hospital. More than seven others, including police officers, were also injured. None of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening.
After the attack, the man reportedly returned to his home carrying what appeared to be a survival knife and barricaded himself inside alone.
