The Special Pocso Court in Machilipatnam on Monday sentenced Parasa Brahmaiah to 20 years’ imprisonment after finding him guilty of sexually assaulting a minor girl.
Special Pocso Court Judge Gajula Venkateswarlu also imposed a fine of ₹10,000. In default of payment, the convict will undergo an additional six months in jail.
The court directed that ₹6 lakh compensation be paid to the victim.
K. Prathap Shiva Kishore appreciated the investigation officers and public prosecutors for presenting strong evidence before the court.
Chain snatching bid foiled
A man allegedly attempted to rob a gold chain from a woman at Jajulavanipalem in Parawada mandal of Anakapalle district on Monday.
According to locals, the accused entered a small shop, snatched the woman’s gold chain and tried to flee. Residents chased and caught him before handing him over to the police.
Parawada Police took the accused into custody and launched an investigation.
Youth ends life over ill health
A 22-year-old man, V Gowtham, allegedly died by suicide at Ponduru in Srikakulam district. Locals said Gowtham was reportedly suffering from depression due to ill-health and took the extreme step. Ponduru police registered a case and launched an investigation.
Young couple killed in bike accident in Kadapa
A young couple has died in a road accident near Kondappagaripalli bridge in Chakrayapet mandal of Kadapa district in the early hours of Sunday.
According to Chakrayapet police, the couple was travelling on a motorcycle when they reportedly lost control of the vehicle and fell, resulting in their instantaneous death.
The deceased were identified as Bukke Mahesh Naik of Pulivendula constituency and Kalla Deepika. Police said it was yet to be confirmed whether the two were married or in a relationship.
Police shifted the bodies to Kadapa RIMS for postmortem and registered a case. Investigation is underway.
