TIRUPATI: A 30-year-old man allegedly murdered his wife at a private lodge in Madanapalle of Annamayya district on Wednesday night and surrendered before the police on Thursday morning.
The accused, Naveed Basha, allegedly attacked his wife, Rubia Taj (28), with a beer bottle before slitting her throat with a sharp weapon. He later walked into a police station and informed officers that he had killed her.
According to the police, the couple, natives of Kurubpet in Mulbagal taluk of Karnataka, had been married for over 10 years and had four children. They had been living separately following marital disputes. Their relatives recently intervened and persuaded Rubia Taj to return to her husband.
The couple arrived in Madanapalle on Wednesday evening and went shopping in the town. Naveed allegedly persuaded his wife to stay overnight at a private lodge, saying it was too late to return home and that they could leave the next morning.
After allegedly committing the murder, Naveed left the lodge on Thursday morning and surrendered at the Two Town police station. He then led the police to the lodge, where Rubia Taj was found dead in a pool of blood.
The case was transferred to the One Town police, who inspected the room, collected evidence and shifted the body to the Madanapalle Government Hospital.
Circle Inspector Mohan Kumar said preliminary investigations indicated that marital disputes could have led to the murder. Further investigation is underway.
