HYDERABAD: A 40-year-old private employee from Hastinapuram allegedly lost ₹3.73 crore in an online investment fraud involving nearly 1,000 transactions after being promised high returns within six to eight months. The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) registered a case following his complaint.
According to the complaint, the victim came across an online advertisement containing a website link. After accessing the website, he received a call from a person identifying himself as Joshi, who persuaded him to invest in a scheme promising substantial returns within six to eight months.
The complainant began investing in January 2026. The website displayed his credit transactions, UPI transfers and bonus amounts, leading him to believe that his investments were generating returns.
When he attempted to withdraw the money, he was warned that an early withdrawal would result in the loss of a substantial portion of the bonuses. Believing the balances and bonuses displayed on the website, he continued investing.
The complainant told police that all subsequent communication took place through the website’s chatbot and that he had no direct contact with any other individual.
He made nearly 1,000 transactions ranging from ₹500 to ₹7.5 lakh through seven bank accounts, including those with State Bank of India, Standard Chartered Bank, Canara Bank, ICICI Bank, Punjab National Bank and Yes Bank.
The money was transferred to several beneficiary accounts bearing company names, including Ecommetrixx Private Limited, Ekonopia IT Technologies, Surgetica Innovations Private Limited and Elvonectra Private Limited.
The complainant became suspicious after the website stopped functioning. After waiting for a few days, he realised that he had allegedly been cheated through the online investment scheme. He reported a total loss of ₹3,73,66,634.
He initially lodged a complaint through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal and subsequently approached the TGCSB, seeking action against those responsible and recovery of his money.
The TGCSB registered a case under Sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 66D of the Information Technology Act.
