A man from Kothaguda lost ₹85,000 after allegedly opening a suspicious APK file sent in the name of an RTO e-challan, police said.
The victim, Sheikh Asif, told police that the amount was withdrawn from his bank account after he opened the file. The cybercriminals also allegedly hacked his WhatsApp account and began sending messages and suspicious links to his contacts.
Asif urged his friends and relatives not to respond to messages or click links sent from his number.
Kothaguda SI Rajkumar acted on the complaint and got the victim’s bank account placed on hold. Police are examining the transaction details and investigating the incident.
