A 32-year-old man allegedly stabbed his younger brother to death following a family dispute at Gareebnagar under the Geesugonda police station limits on Saturday night.

Police said the deceased, Elubaka Prasad, 31, worked as a welder and lived with his mother. His elder brother, Elubaka Praveen, 32, lived with his wife and children at Keerthinagar in Gorrekunta.

According to police, the brothers had been involved in disputes for some time. On Saturday night, Praveen went to Prasad’s house in Garib Nagar and picked a quarrel with him. He allegedly attacked Prasad with a knife, stabbing him multiple times. Prasad suffered severe blood loss and died on the spot.

Geesugonda police reached the scene after receiving information and collected evidence with the help of the clues team. Based on a complaint lodged by the deceased’s mother, Sujatha, police registered a murder case against Praveen.

Geesugonda Inspector D. Vishweshwar said special teams had been formed to trace Praveen, who was absconding.

Locals said a dispute over a mobile phone may have also contributed to the killing. Prasad had recently purchased a new mobile phone, and an argument reportedly broke out after Praveen asked him to give him his old phone. The quarrel allegedly escalated and culminated in the killing.
