Srinagar: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday directed security forces and law enforcement agencies to intensify their operations against separatist militants and their support networks, stressing the need to firmly dismantle what he described as the “terror ecosystem” in Jammu and Kashmir. At the same time, he called upon all agencies to work in close coordination to strengthen public outreach and ensure that developmental and welfare initiatives reach the people effectively.

The Lt. Governor made these remarks while chairing a high-level meeting of the Unified Headquarters (UHQ) at Raj Bhawan in Srinagar, where the prevailing security situation across the Union Territory was comprehensively reviewed. The meeting, coinciding with the anniversary of the arrival of Indian troops in Srinagar in 1947 to push back Pakistan-backed tribal raiders, assumed significance as J&K prepares for the forthcoming winter season, a period that often presents both logistical and security challenges in several regions.

The deliberations were attended by senior officials from the J&K Police, the Indian Army, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), intelligence agencies, and the civil administration, including the Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo. Participants conducted a detailed assessment of the overall security landscape and discussed measures to enhance operational preparedness and inter-agency coordination.

During the meeting, Sinha emphasised the importance of maintaining sustained pressure on militant groups and their facilitators, asserting that a decisive approach was essential to eliminate the infrastructure that supports militancy and terror in the region. He also underlined the need for seamless cooperation among security and intelligence agencies to effectively respond to emerging challenges and safeguard peace and stability across J&K.

Officials reviewed a range of security-related issues, including counter-terrorism operations, intelligence-sharing mechanisms, border and hinterland security, and preparedness for the winter months. Discussions also focused on improving coordination between security forces and the civil administration to ensure timely responses to any security contingencies while maintaining uninterrupted delivery of essential public services.

The Lt. Governor urged all stakeholders to adopt a holistic approach that combines robust security measures with people-centric governance. He stressed that efforts to preserve peace must go hand in hand with initiatives aimed at public welfare, development, and citizen engagement, thereby reinforcing public confidence and strengthening the overall environment of stability in the UT.

The Unified Headquarters serves as the apex security coordination forum in J&K, bringing together senior representatives of the security establishment, intelligence agencies, and civil administration. The platform facilitates a collective review of the security situation, enables strategic discussions on emerging threats, and ensures synchronised action among various agencies responsible for maintaining law and order and protecting public safety.

Official sources said that the meeting concluded with a renewed emphasis on heightened vigilance, enhanced inter-agency synergy, and a coordinated strategy to address security concerns while advancing the broader objective of peace, development, and public welfare across J&K.
