One of the most loved actresses, Martha Stewart, is leading the headlines after she was dressed as a poor homeless person on Halloween. She faced immense backlash after her appearance, as people thought that Stewart was being insensitive. Now, the lifestyle guru has apologized to her social media users.
Martha Stewart is sorry for her Halloween look
After posting her Halloween pictures, Martha Stewart took to her IG handle and penned an apology. She admitted screwing up people’s emotions and called her look ‘insensitive’. Penning about the same, she wrote:
“It’s hard to admit when you’ve really screwed up. My earlier statement didn’t go far enough. I know many people are suffering economically. Wearing a costume like I did was insensitive and not funny. I am very sorry.”

All about Martha Stewart’s Halloween costume
When the world was celebrating Halloween, Martha Stewart’s look grabbed attention. She shared a now-deleted Instagram post showing her in worn-out, tattered clothes. The entrepreneur also smeared dirt on her face and held a clipboard with a handwritten sign, which read, “I am hungry; help me!”
After Martha posted the pictures, she became the center of attention, and people called her out for crossing the line. Although Martha removed the photos shortly after posting because of the backlash, many internet users had already taken screenshots. Many users called it ‘insensitive’ and ‘offensive’. One critic commented, “Your choice reflects an utter disconnect from the desperation and suffering of so many people, especially those who are unhoused and hungry.”
The criticism was more noticeable because Martha is one of America’s wealthiest lifestyle personalities. Critics questioned her decision to use poverty as a Halloween costume, despite her fortune being USD 400 million.
Soon after the backlash, Martha deleted the photos and addressed the issue in a statement to Page Six. She claimed that the entire affair has left her distressed, as her only intention behind dressing up as a homeless person was to bring more awareness to the subject. Speaking about the same, Martha said:
“I am distressed that my Halloween costume yesterday, which was intended to bring more awareness to the very serious subject of homelessness, has offended people, which was never my intention.”
In her statement to Page Six, Martha added that Halloween is one of her favorite holidays of the year. She said she has spent decades teaching others how to celebrate Halloween. This includes sharing fun, festive recipes, providing unique craft ideas, and giving tips on entertaining and hosting.

Born into a working-class family, Martha Stewart completed her studies, became a stockbroker on Wall Street, and eventually started a catering business. The business mogul’s first book, Entertaining, was published in 1982. Later, Martha expanded her business into TV, magazines, books, and product lines. She later built her business empire through cooking, home decoration, gardening, and TV appearances.
In her personal life, Martha Stewart married Andrew “Andy” Stewart in 1961. She was 19 at the time, and they welcomed their daughter, Alexis, four years later in 1965. The couple stayed married for three decades before calling it quits in 1987.
