Martin Freeman has secretly married Rachel Benaissa.
The actor, 55, has been in a relationship with actress Rachel, 32, since 2020, and the pair made a rare red carpet appearance together at the London Film Festival on Wednesday evening.
The pair looked sensational at the glamorous event and Rachel popped her hand on Martin’s chest, allowing the cameras to pick up a diamond ring on her wedding finger. A rep for the couple then confirmed to The Mirrorthat they had indeed tied the knot.
Although they aren’t often spotted in public together, she does support him at professional events, such as on the red carpet at last year’s Olivier Awards and at the premiere for Seven Dials.
Martin has been globally famous for decades, starring across an array of genres and is renowned for roles in films like The Hobbit trilogy and Love Actually but is also known for his TV appearances in classic sitcom The Office and the crime drama series Sherlock.
French-born Rachel is also in the acting world, and she has had small roles in Netflix hit Irish Wish, which starred Lindsay Lohan, as well as Normal People and This Way Up, She also penned the TV movie Dare To Say Yes, which was released onto Apple TV in 2023.
Although Martin has stayed relatively tight-lipped on his relationship with Rachel over the years, he has spoken about her a couple of times.
Appearing on Jessie and Lennie Ware’s Table Manners podcast, Martin revealed he and his love adore cooking together in their spare time. Because of Rachel’s heritage, Lennie asked: “She’s French. Is she Cordon Bleu?”
Martin replied: “She’s not a Cordon Bleu… she’s a massive cheese and wine w***e. That’s what she would say about herself. She says that about herself, ‘I’m a cheese and wine w***e’. It’s not all she is, but no, she loves all that stuff. We like cooking.'”
The actor was previously in a longterm relationship with former Strictly Come Dancing star Amanda Abbington and they are parents to Joe, 19, and 18-year-old Grace together. The pair were together from 2000 until 2016 and it was during filming Sherlock together they had to call time on their real-life relationship because “they just couldn’t live with each other anymore.”
Amanda admitted the split took a huge emotional toll on her but said they managed to hide their turmoil on set and maintain their professionalism.
She told The Sunday Times Magazine, she revealed: “When we broke up nobody knew, we didn’t tell anybody except for a few key people because they had to know, because of the logistics of hotels and stuff. It took six months for it to get out and a lot of that was while we were working on Sherlock… We were professional and we were going to get on and make a show and be civil to each other.”
She added: “We still get on really well, we still really both admire each other as actors..
