Martin Lewis has taken to social media to reveal that he had something of a row with a fellow train passenger who chose not to use headphones whilst playing a serial killer docuemntary
Martin Lewis had something of a row with a fellow train passenger who refused to use headphones.
The This Morning star, 54, who is married to Lara Lewington and has 13-year-old Sapphire with her, was travelling with his daughter when others on the train started to play content out loud for the whole carriage to hear.
Initially, Martin decided to stay quiet but then had to say something when one of them began to play something he deemed “inappropriate” for his daughter to hear, only for the woman to give a less-than-civil response. He wrote on Instagram: “On a packed train with my family. Couple across the aisle both alternatively playing social media videos on speakers at full volume.
“Managed not to say anything until the woman started playing a documentary about serial killers. I’m here with my daughter.
“I politely said ‘Please could you turn it down? It’s not appropriate.’ To which she replied ‘I’m sure she’s heard worse at school.’ I said that really wasn’t her call to make and in general could she please reduce the volume.
“Her response, ‘Its a public train for heavens sake’. For me that’s exactly why it is anti social (and what headphones were invented for). I’m wondering which one of us is out of kilter on this? Ps I should note she did thankfully reduce the volume and we all left it there.”
It turns out that, to Martin’s followers, the incident was quite a common one and they piled into the comments section of his post to show their support.
One said: “Thank you for drawing more attention to this matter. This infuriating display of ignorance needs action. I can’t help wonder where courtesy, manners and respect for others has gone. We really need to address this more widely.”
Another said: “Bad manners, rude & selfish. People are just not mindful at all when travelling,” and a third wrote: “It’s the height of ignorance. Sadly becoming more common as the is no consequence.
“We are permitting this behaviour as a country which has lost all what it stands for. No values, no standards, no manners, no respect, no etiquette, no class… Very sad to watch.
A fourth wrote: “”I heard a story that this happened to someone on a train and the other person refused to turn it down. So they just started reading out loud from their book.”
