AS Roma have received encouragement in their pursuit of Olympique de Marseille forward Mason Greenwood, with the player’s father and agent reportedly giving the green light to a move to the Italian capital.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma have made Greenwood one of their priority targets this summer as they assess the feasibility of a deal with Olympique de Marseille.

The report states that Greenwood’s father-agent has already approved the destination, while new Roma head coach Gian Piero Gasperini is prepared to personally contact the England-born forward in order to present his sporting project. Marseille are said to value Greenwood at around €55m following an impressive debut season at the Stade Vélodrome after his arrival from Manchester United last summer.

Relations between Roma and Marseille are understood to be strong, after previous dealings which involved the sale of young striker Robinio Vaz for €25m last winter.

Roma may still need to create financial room before making a formal approach. Matías Soulé could leave the club this summer amid interest from Aston Villa, with the Italian side reportedly demanding between €35m and €40m for the Argentine attacker.
