Matchbox Twenty is looking back at “How Far They’ve Come.”
Rob Thomas and co. just announced a 30th anniversary tour celebrating the release of their 1996 debut album “Yourself or Someone Like You.”
From April through August 2027, the ’90s hitmakers will swing into stadiums, arenas, amphitheaters, arches, bowls, palaces, pavilions, arts centers, parks and festivals all over North America.
That includes three gigs in New Jersey and New York. They’re scheduled to go down:
PNC Bank Arts Center
Holmdel, NJ
Thursday, July 8, 2027
with David Gray
Jones Beach Theater
Wantagh, NY
Sunday, July 18, 2027
with David Gray
Saratoga Performing Arts Center
Saratoga Springs, NY
Tuesday, July 20, 2027
with David Gray
They’ll be joined by big-name special guests The All-American Rejects, The Wallflowers, David Gray, O.A.R., Matt Nathanson and more on select dates.
Fans can likely expect Thomas, Thomas, Kyle Cook, Paul Doucette and Brian Yale to bust out hits from their ’96 debut like “Real World,” “3AM,” “Push,” “Back 2 Good” and “Long Day” at all shows.
Other classics from their deep back catalog — think “Bent,” “If You’re Gone,” “Unwell,” “Disease” and, of course, “How Far We’ve Come” — will likely make their way to the stage as well, based on what Set List FM reports the group has played at recent gigs.
Fingers crossed “Smooth” (and Santana) pops up, too.
On top of the tour, Rob Thomas is striking out on a five-concert solo tour of his own this winter to benefit the charity Sidewalk Angels that supports animal welfare.
While out and about, Thomas won’t hit New York but will get close when he headlines at Atlantic City’s Hard Rock Hotel and Casino on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2027.
“When my band and I do these Sidewalk Angels shows, they are for a much-more initiated type of fan,” Thomas told The Post in an exclusive interview. “We’ve been going through the archives and pulling out songs I haven’t played in 15 years because I know there’s going to be a group of people that are really going to appreciate it.”
Tickets for the Matchbox Twenty 30th anniversary shows officially go on sale to the general public on Friday, Oct. 23 at 10 a.m. local time through Ticketmaster but are available now on trusted secondary market sites like Vivid Seats.

Matchbox Twenty new music
In 2023, Rob Thomas and his backing band dropped their fifth studio album “Where The Light Goes.”
Coming in at a tight 45 minutes, the band veers away from the straightforward power pop they’ve become known for.
Instead, Matchbox Twenty embraces an orchestral sound complete with twinkling pianos, afrobeats and duets.
The end result is something unlike anything they’ve released before.
Standout tracks include the joyous album opener “Friends,” the hypnotic bop “The Queen Of New York,” and the deceptively simple “I Know Better.”
If you want to listen to the emphatic record for yourself, you can find it here.
