Vibes could not be higher for the Las Vegas Raiders right now.
Star rookie quarterback Fernando Mendoza finally signed his rookie deal with the Raiders on Thursday, putting pen to paper on a contract that’s worth a fully guaranteed $57.2 million over four seasons, plus a $38-million signing bonus.
This means the Raiders now have superstars on both sides of the ball. Star edge rusher Maxx Crosby is back with the franchise after a hectic offseason that included the blockbuster deal that was supposed to send him to the Baltimore Ravens.
While edge rusher’s future was uncertain at best earlier this year, Crosby is now fully invested in this upcoming season. So is Crosby’s wife, Rachel, who made that clear with a post to her Instagram story on Thursday morning.
The photo showed Maxx flipping two birds at the camera in front of a blacked out Bentley. The post was captioned, “YEAR EIGHT 🖤🦅 Load & lock baby!”
Crosby’s wife saying, “load and lock” comes off as ruthless, which must be the tone she and her husband are trying to set ahead of this upcoming Raiders season.
Given the timing of the story post and the fact that it was still dark outside, the photo appears to have been taken before Crosby showed up to the Raiders’ facility on Thursday morning.
Las Vegas’ social media accounts posted a video showing Crosby arriving on scene, seemingly before any other players.
Thursday was the day that Raiders rookies were required to report to training camp. There are always several veterans who also report early, and Crosby was among those this season, seemingly because he’s keen to lead by example and put in extra work.
Time will tell whether Crosby’s return, Mendoza’s arrival, and this preseason energy amounts to wins for the Silver and Black.
