Love Island returns to ITV2 next week with 12 new singletons heading to the Majorcan villa and Maya Jama has opened up on her backstage beauty regime
Maya Jama has revealed her beauty secret ahead of returning to Majorca for Love Island series 13.
The 12 contestants, comprising six males and six females, have been announced and will enter the iconic Spanish villa when the ITV2 dating programme launches on Monday (June 1).
As expected, viewers can anticipate eliminations, tension and stunning appearances from presenter Maya, who readily delivers show-stopping moments.
The Bristol-born star began presenting Love Island in January 2023 for the programme’s ninth series, assuming presenting and Aftersun hosting responsibilities from Laura Whitmore, who departed the position in summer 2022.
Subsequently, Maya has also fronted numerous franchise spin-offs, including Love Island Games in Fiji and Love Island: All Stars in South Africa, reports OK!.
Discussing her pre-recording preparations ahead of major moments on the programme, Maya revealed: “As we’re filming in crazy heat, I always take huge care of my skin.
“Hydration is non-negotiable – skin always tells the truth on camera – so it’s about good prep rather than heavy coverage in that weather.”
Maya has presented the programme for over three years and has confessed she’s intrigued by the production team who operate behind the scenes to bring the show to audiences nightly.
She elaborated: ‘Everyone’s role on that set is more demanding than it looks but I’m fascinated by the gallery. They’re watching everything in real time, shaping the story as it unfolds, deciding what the audience feels without ever being seen.
“There’s a real precision to that – knowing when to lean into a moment and when to hold back. It’s probably the closest you get to truly understanding the villa as a whole.”
The lads seeking romance this summer are Ope, Aidan, Samuel, Sean, Samraj and Lorenzo and they’ll be accompanied by girls Jasmine, Lola, Angelista, Ellie, Robyn and Mica.
Sharing some advice with the initial contestants, Maya stated: “Stay open, stay curious, and don’t be afraid to be true to yourself – it usually leads somewhere more interesting than playing it perfectly.”
Love Island returns to ITV2 and ITVX on Monday, June 1 at 9pm
