Dharna Durga started posting videos during the pandemic

Puducherry-born Dharna is a graduate in literature from Delhi University. She loved the performing arts and was involved in theatre and drama in college. Confused about whether to join the dance group or the theatre society, she figured theatre would give her the opportunity to sing, dance and act. Soon, the world was hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, and people were locked inside their homes.

Dharna’s journey began at that time. Since she couldn’t go to college, Dharna ended up making videos of herself from her home. She and her friends would send each other video challenges, clips of themselves acting out different characters while stuck at home. During that time, her friends persuaded Dharna to post her videos on Instagram since they were very funny. She wasn’t there on social media at that time.

Dharna Durga became an overnight sensation with her social media videos

In May 2020, Dharna posted her first video, in which she played a character called ‘Bubble’, quarantined at home, watching TV and playing Ludo. She then posted her next video, “expectations vs reality,” about dancing at a wedding. That video turned viral with influencers like Komal Pandey and Kusha Kapila reacting to it. Soon, Dharna became viral with her relatable Reels and currently enjoys a huge fanbase.

The reason behind the success of her content is that she keeps it simple and to the point. Her followers connect with her easily. Talking about her content, Durga shared:

“Everyone has something in common, everyone is observing the same things. I try to keep my content as desi as possible so I can reach as wide an audience as I can. I never expected that I’d blow up like this. When I see a comment or a repost from someone I really like or admire, I go running to my mom to show her.”

Dharna Durga’s popularity got her acting offers

As Dharna’s popularity grew across social media platforms, with celebs often commenting and reposting her content, the talented content creator started getting brand deals and acting gigs. In 2022, she starred in the MX Player mini series Bhai Behen Vs The World and later made her big screen debut with the Janhvi Kapoor and Varun Dhawan starrer Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari.

She is currently starring alongside Madhuri Dixit and Triptii Dimri in Maa Behen, in which her acting is highly praised. Apart from acting, Dharna loves dancing and is a trained Contemporary and Freestyle dancer.
