TV host and homemaking expert Martha Stewart says she attended an event in California with Meghan Markle and claims the Duchess talked about her recent UK visit
Meghan Markle was “talking about” her trip to the UK to see the King at a dinner party, TV host Martha Stewart had claimed.
According to the US homemaking expert, the pair recently attended the same event in California after the Sussexes visited Prince Harry ’s homeland, where she says they briefly spoke. The trip back to the UK, which was Meghan’s first visit to Britain in four years, saw her, Harry, and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, reunited with Charles and Queen Camilla at the King’s country retreat, Highgrove.
It was also the first time the monarch had seen his young grandchildren in over four years, but no pictures or details of what was said during the reunion have emerged.
Speaking to PEOPLE magazine, Stewart, 85, said: “I had dinner with Meghan Markle the other night. We were both guests at a dinner party in California. And she had just gotten back from the palace. I didn’t talk to her really more than to say a couple words, but I know she was talking about it.”
The Sussexes have been estranged from the royals after Harry criticised his father, stepmother Camilla, brother the Prince of Wales and sister-in-law Kate in his Oprah interview, Netflix documentary, interviews and his autobiography Spare, after stepping down from the working monarchy six years ago.
Harry saw his father for the first time in 19 months last September during a brief meeting at Clarence House last September, before bringing his family to meet the King at Highgrove last month. Many see the key to reconciliation between the Sussexes and the King as being that whatever happens in such meetings remains private. The Mirror has contacted the Duchess of Sussex’s spokesperson for comment.
Last month, Meghan shared a series of snaps from her family’s trip to the UK on Instagram, including a photo showing the Sussexes visiting Althorp – the stately home, where Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana, was laid to rest. The photos also showed them appearing to visit Scotland and suggested they also spent time in Portugal. However, no photos were shared of the meeting with the King and Queen.
Meanwhile, in the same interview, Stewart, known for her cooking shows, was asked about Meghan’s own cooking and lifestyle show, With Love, Meghan. The Duchess of Sussex has pivoted into the space and has set up her own lifestyle brand, As Ever, selling jam, honey, tea and flower sprinkles.
And Stewart replied: “If you’re an actress, it’s hard to then transition to a princess and then from a princess into a homemaking guru on a television show. It doesn’t sort of follow. So go from there.”
Stewart gained a reputation as a domestic authority in the 1980s after publishing a series of lifestyle books. She founded her highly successful Martha Stewart Living magazine in 1990, which led to the launch of her eponymous lifestyle TV show three years later – establishing her as a household name in the US.
She has received multiple accolades, including 12 Daytime Emmy Awards, written more than 100 books and opened multiple restaurants during her decades in the spotlight.
Earlier this week, Meghan celebrated her 45th birthday and posted a series of photos and videos on her Instagram account. She shared two videos to her Instagram Stories showing her dancing around her kitchen, while ‘Happy Birthday’ played in the background.
She also shared two photos showing her in a black swimsuit and sunglasses clutching a bunch of balloons, including some that say ‘happy birthday’, while jumping into a swimming pool.
