All about Isha Ambani’s gajra, made for Met Gala 2026

Sourabh Gupta, an artist and architect based in Brooklyn, New York created the intricate jasmine-inspired hair sculpture for Isha Ambani‘s Met Gala 2026 look. Sourabh was responsible for the artistic reinterpretation of the traditional mogra gajra (jasmine hair garland). The headpiece was meant to act as a living sculpture. Interestingly, the piece was made using unconventional materials, including paper, copper, and brass, and finished with Indian pigment paint.

Decoding Isha Ambani’s Gaurav Gupta-designed 2026 Met Gala saree

For the 2026 Met Gala, Isha Ambani brought a sculptural masterpiece to the red carpet. The look was a custom silver-and-beige Gaurav Gupta saree, designed to fit the year’s Fashion Is Art theme. The outfit was woven with pure gold threads. Gaurav transformed the traditional Indian garment into wearable art. The elegant saree was handcrafted by master artisans at Swadesh, with more than 25 artisans dedicating over 1,200 hours to create it. A sculptural cape topped off the look, adding a modern, dramatic dimension to the ensemble.

Isha Ambani wore a custom gold saree for the Met Gala 2026, featuring a heavily bejewelled bodice with diamonds from her mother, Nita Ambani’s private collection. Styled by Anaita Shroff Adajania, the outfit incorporated over 150 carats of vintage mine-cut diamonds and was completely hand-sewn, according to Town&Country. Additionally, she wore two graduated diamond necklaces totalling over 250 carats, one of which featured a 50-carat emerald from Lorraine Schwartz. Speaking about the look, Isha said:

“It’s a sari, it’s a hand-woven sari, and the blouse is full of my mother’s jewellery. And it has, like, you know, different sentimental pieces. It has something from, you know, a gift that I got when my kids were born. And, you know, just other things that are sentimental.”

Isha carried a bronze mango sculpture by artist Subodh Gupta as a nod to her Indian heritage. Many mistook the lovelike structure as a real fruit; however, in reality, it was a 20-year-old showpiece made by an Indian artist. Isha, carrying the fake mango at the Met Gala 2026, transformed a mundane object into a piece of handheld art, directly aligning with the gala’s theme. It was her way of paying tribute to Indian craftsmanship.
