Austin Slater’s time with the Mets went about as well as his stint with the Yankees.
The Mets designated Slater for assignment Tuesday morning, according to The Post’s Jon Heyman.
Slater hit .250/.286/.300 with one RBI in 21 plate appearances spanning nine games, and did not appear in Tuesday’s 16-7 win in 12 innings.
The Mets signed the 33-year-old last month after the Marlins released him, with the righty replacing Tommy Pham after he struggled in a limited stint.
Luis Robert Jr.’s injury opened the door for a spot, but A.J. Ewing’s recent emergence has given the team a quality option to start alongside Carson Benge and Juan Soto.
Slater, known for hitting lefties, did not provide much value with the Mets, and now has had unmemorable stints with both New York teams.
He slashed .120/.120/.120 across 25 plate appearances with the Yankees last year after being acquired at the trade deadline before suffering a hamstring injury.
Slater has hit .209 with a .518 OPS spanning 21 games with the Mets and Marlins this year, and it’s fair to wonder about his future since he owns a career .602 OPS since the start of the 2024 season.
