BENGALURU: Newly elected MLA Sunil Anand (53) from Metupalyam Assembly seat has his ancestral roots at Hoodikeghatta of Dabbeghatta hobli, Turuvekere taluk in Tumakuru district and the win of Sunil Anand has left his relatives in enjoy in Hoodikeghatta. Sunil Anand represents Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) led by tamil star Joseph Vijay.

About a century back, the family of Sunil Anand moved to Ooty and settled in Mettupalayam to conduct agriculture and business but no connection between his family in Mettupalayam and Hoodikeghatta. His grandfather Lingaiah was the Chairman of Mettupalayam Municipality.

Sunil Anand into agriculture and business was associated with All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) for about 10 years before he came into contact with Vijay Joseph to work for TVK.

TVK fielded Sunil Anand from the Mettupalayam Assembly seat. Sunil Anand defeated his nearest rival, a DMK nominee by about 8,000 votes. Sunil polled 76,000 votes out of 2.42 lakh votes in the Assembly seat.

“It was a tri-angular fight among TVK, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and AIADMK in Mettupalayam seat,” said Sunil Anand in a chat with Deccan Chronicle on Tuesday and stated “Trusting Vijay Joseph voters casted their votes for my candidature leading to my victory.”

Sunil Anand said “Voters only casted votes on Vijay Joseph factor rather than focusing on a candidate’s background such as his language, origin among other factors.”

Now, elected as an MLA, Sunil Anand said “Implementation of manifesto assumed utmost importance while his focus has been on improving drainage system, roads, drinking water in his constituency.” Being elected for the Tamil Nadu assembly, Sunil Anand exuded confidence of him making into the ministry and stated “The decision is on the party leaders.”

His relative H.B. Nanjegowda, a former MLA of Turuvekere Assembly seat, said he turned emotional after Sunil Anand emerged victorious in the election and stated “Winning an election that too in Tamil Nadu is by no means an ordinary task.”

Nanjegowda recalled that Sunil Anand visits his native village to offer prayers to family deities and spends time with the relatives here. Sunil Anand is shortly visiting Hoodikeghatta.
