Michael Brockers gives honest opinion about Aaron Donald’s health

Over the last week, momentum has been at an all-time high regarding a potential reunion between Aaron Donald and the Los Angeles Rams and whether Donald can still play at the level he once did.

Donald’s former teammate Michael Brockers appeared as a guest on the Jim Rome show and gave an update on if Donald would consider a return to the football field.

“He’s not going to attempt to play this game if he’s not at a hundred percent yet,” Brockers said of Donald. “He doesn’t see himself going out there, putting bad things on tape, or bad things on film just to collect a check or opportunity for a Super Bowl.”

Since the Rams traded for Myles Garrett on June 1, rumors have swirled across the NFL on the possibility of Donald coming out of retirement to play alongside Garrett on the defensive line.

Donald has posted multiple videos of himself working out and participating in football drills as the summer has gone by.

Over the last week, the rumors of Donald returning have taken another step forward as the Rams reported on Wednesday that Donald had an official workout with the Rams.

On Friday afternoon, Donald was seen performing football drills at UCLA’s practice facility, the Wasserman Football Center, where he was later greeted by young fans and was asked if he was coming out of retirement.

Donald played in the NFL for 10 years and was considered one of the most dominant pass rushers to play the game, as he was a three-time Defensive Player of the Year winner [2017,2018,2020], with 10 Pro Bowl selections.

Brockers and Donald were teammates for eight years and went through it all together, as they were both members of the Rams when the team was still located in St. Louis, and helped reshape the culture of the Rams and bring a winning tradition to the team.

In 2018, Brockers and Donald helped lead the team’s defense to its first Super Bowl birth since 2002.

The Rams ended up losing Super Bowl 53 to the New England Patriots in 2018, but Donald would return to the biggest stage in football in 2022 when the Rams defeated the Cincinnati Bengals, 23-20, where he had the game-winning sack.

“He wants to dominate every time he’s on the field, so I would expect to see him as close to his prime as possible, especially when you’re not getting triple-teamed and quadruple-teamed when you’re playing an opponent,” Brockers said.
