Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has admitted Manchester City’s financial charges have affected him personally and called for the ongoing case to be resolved as quickly as possible.
City are appealing after being found guilty of breaching Premier League financial regulations, with the outcome of that process still to be decided.
Carrick, who spent 12 years playing for Manchester United during City’s rise to prominence, acknowledged that he has questions about the case but was reluctant to discuss potential consequences while the appeal remains ongoing.
Speaking at his latest press conference, Carrick admitted the situation had raised questions that have yet to be fully answered.
“Very difficult to say in many ways,” the United boss said.
“It’s thrown up a lot of questions, some have had answers, some haven’t. As it’s still ongoing, and we don’t how long it’s going to go, there’s only so much I can say.
“Certainly I’ve got my own questions about it, it’s affected me personally in different ways over a period of time.
“But as the case is going now I don’t know where that stands and how it’s going to end up, so we’ll just have to wait and see.”
Carrick was part of the Manchester United side that finished second to City in the 2011-12 Premier League title race, when Sergio Aguero’s stoppage-time winner against Queens Park Rangers secured the championship on goal difference.
He also experienced City’s growing influence in English football throughout the latter stages of his playing career.
“What I will say, the sooner it gets sorted I think for everyone’s benefit is essential.”
Manchester United suffer Patrick Dorgu injury blow
Carrick also provided an update on Manchester United’s injury situation following the international break, confirming that Patrick Dorgu faces several weeks on the sidelines.
The Denmark international was forced off while representing his country and now looks set for an extended absence.
“It’s a bit mixed really through the internationals,” Carrick said.
“Patrick [Dorgu] came off and it looks like he’ll be out probably for a number of weeks.”
United are also monitoring Noussair Mazraoui after the defender suffered a knock while away on international duty.
“Noussair Mazraoui came off and took a knock. He’s not quite right yet, we’ll have to see how he is.”
Carrick provides updates on Rashford, Mainoo and Sesko

There was more encouraging news concerning several other members of the United squad, with Carlos Baleba making progress towards full fitness.
“Carlos Beleba is improving. He’s trained a lot,” Carrick said.
“Amad Diallo has done a little bit of training. Marcus [Rashford] has done a little bit of training. Kobbie [Mainoo] has done a little bit of training.”
However, Benjamin Sesko remains further away from returning to action.
“Benjamin [Sesko] is a little further a way with the issue he’s got. He’ll be a little bit further away.”
