Michael Douglas is opening up about his personal life. The actor, whose memoir, One Helluva Ride, is up for release on October 6, 2026, has been sharing rare insights into his personal life. Michael was first married to Diandra Luker, with whom he has a son. The couple met when he was 32, and Diandra was 19; however, they fell in love and got married in 1977. In 1995, the couple separated, and five years later, in 2000, the duo’s divorce was finalized.
Following this, he married Catherine Zeta-Jones. The couple got married in 2000, and they have two kids. The actor’s second wedding took place five months after he divorced his first wife. The couple was so much in love, so much so that he even changed himself. Even so, their marriage had some bumpy rides, one of them occurring in 2013, when they decided to separate. However, the separation lasted only several months, and they came back stronger.
Michael Douglas changed his ‘playboy’ self after meeting Catherine Zeta-Jones
According to the LA Times, Douglas, in his memoir, owned up to a ‘playboy’ image and stated that towards the end of the 1990s, when his relationship with Catherine Zeta-Jones became official, he went on to end his relationship with five women. The actor said that the moment he met Catherine, it felt like they formed a family, and to him, he was a new man. To quote the actor:
“From the moment I met Catherine and we formed a family. I was a new man.”

Michael Douglas briefly separated and reconciled later
In his memoir, Michael Douglas shared some of the never-before-heard anecdotes from his life, including confirming his secret affair with Kathleen Turner, or his relationship with Jeanne Tripplehorn. He also talked about his and his wife Catherine’s decision to separate briefly, 13 years after their marriage. The couple briefly parted ways only to come back stronger. Even though they were separated, Michael had the hope that they would reconcile, and it turned out to be true. In an interview two days ago, Douglas talked about his brief separation from Zeta-Jones.
When asked how he won her back, Michael clearly mentioned it was a mutual decision. He further added that marriage is a lot of work, and as of now, he and his wife are in a very good place. Zeta, on the other hand, didn’t read his memoir, as per him. Douglas could be quoted as saying:
“Won her back? It was a mutual … You know, we had our problems but I love her dearly and, 25 years, you know. I mean, I don’t know about your marital status, but marriage is a lot of work, you know. And so, you know, we’re good. We’re in good shape. It’s all I can say.”
Catherine and Douglas crossed paths in 1998 when he first saw her during the screening of The Mask of Zorro at the Deauville Film Festival in France. Reportedly, as Douglas noticed the actress, he asked one of his friends to introduce them. Within 30 minutes of meeting Catherine, Douglas told her that he was going to be the father of her children.

The couple, who share an age gap of 25 years, started dating, and two years later, they got married. Before that, the couple welcomed their son Dylan in the same year. Catherine and Douglas welcomed their second child, a baby girl, Carys, in 2003. In 2013, they separated but never filed for divorce. They got back together in 2014 and have been together since.
