Daler Mehndi has been facing intense backlash for his recent performance in Uttarakhand during Navratri celebrations, which went viral. The singer was performing at Kunjapuri Mela when he was interrupted by Subodh Uniyal, who confronted him for allegedly lip-syncing instead of actually performing. Now, amid the buzz, Mika Singh has come forward to defend Daler, alleging that the singer has been sick for the past two years.
Mika Singh defends Daler Mehndi amid Navratri performance controversy
On October 20, 2026, Mika Singh took to his Instagram handle and shared a video message defending Daler Mehndi. For the unversed, the singer was accused of performing under the influence of alcohol. However, Mika denied the allegations and said that Daler had undergone major surgery and had been recovering, which could have affected his performance.

Mika asserted that Daler had been struggling with his health for two years. Mika challenged anyone who had seen Daler drinking alcohol to come forward, declaring that he would quit singing if someone could substantiate the claim. Mika alleged that the way Daler Mehndi was treated during the event was “disappointing” and added:
“A respected minister came on stage and made allegations about him drinking alcohol. But before publishing such claims, shouldn’t we verify the facts and give the artist a chance to present his side? Would anyone dare to treat an international band like Coldplay that way? I know my brother Daler Mehndi, and he does not drink alcohol. He has been unwell for the past two years and is still recovering, yet he continues to perform with his band.”
In the same video, Mika Singh further alleged that many singers use backing tracks these days. However, no one questions them the way Daler Mehndi was questioned during the performance. Mika called Daler “India’s biggest superstar” and said that could be why he became such an easy target. He further asked the media to be fair and responsible, while asserting how a headline can permanently damage someone’s reputation.
Mika acknowledged the minister’s concerns about the performance but urged him not to allege that the singer was performing under the influence of alcohol.
Subodh Uniyal claims Daler Mehndi was offered Rs. 35 lakh for the performance
Previously, in a conversation with ANI, Subodh Uniyal alleged that Daler Mehndi was offered Rs. 35 lakh for his performance. He alleged that during the Navratri event, the singer looked disoriented and was not able to stand properly. Uniyal added that Daler was offered a massive amount for the show, and he expressed his dismay when the singer didn’t do justice to the art. He was quoted as saying:
“He is a big artist. If a big artist doesn’t do justice to their art…He seemed disoriented on stage and didn’t seem to be able to even keep standing. Besides this, he was only lip-syncing to his songs. I told him that he is a big artist and he should do justice to his art; he had been offered Rs. 35 lakh to come and perform, but he was not even singing. So, I expressed my resentment.”

For those who are unaware, Daler Mehndi was performing at the celebration when Subodh Uniyal interrupted him mid-performance and called him out for appearing disoriented on stage. It was alleged that the singer was under the influence of alcohol and was barely able to sing, but these allegations cannot be independently confirmed.
According to PTI, Uniyal said that the audience had come to hear Daler perform and he did not meet the expectations. He further alleged that the event was taking place during the religious period of Navratri, and Daler Mehndi should have maintained decorum. The video of the incident has since gone viral on social media, with many calling out the singer.
