It’s been a very interesting season for the New England Patriots, to say the least.

New England hasn’t played the kind of football anyone expected after making the Super Bowl a year ago and losing to the Seattle Seahawks. To start the season, the Patriots had a Super Bowl rematch against the Seahawks, with Drake Maye going 23 of 33 with one touchdown and three interceptions.
Maye wasn’t much better against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Patriots’ Week 2 win, going 14 of 22 for just 208 yards, no passing touchdowns, and one interception.
Maye wasn’t great, but he didn’t need to be because of how good the run offense was. Running back TreVeyon Henderson finished with 76 yards on 16 carries, and Rhamondre Stevenson finished with six carries for 43 yards.
However, if the Patriots are going to be the team they need to be, Maye has to be a star.

Speaking to reporters, head coach Mike Vrabel said there’s a lot Maye needs to improve on, but ultimately, he feels like the quarterback is putting too much pressure on himself to be a star.
“Certainly the decisions, I think that we all put pressure on ourselves to be great, and I think that that’s what really good players want to try to do,” he said, per the Boston Globe. “I just think you have to find the fine balance of reading things out — being able to kind of somewhat predict — have the timing to make the decisions to throw the ball downfield. I thought for the most part it was pretty good yesterday.
“I think there were some things that Drake could obviously do better,” he added. “There are some things that a lot of guys could do better offensively.”
Maye has been one of the bright young stars in football over the past couple of years and will continue to be once he gets going.

It’s only the second week of the season, so there really isn’t too much to worry about just yet.
Nonetheless, if the Patriots are going to be a Super Bowl-caliber team in the future, a lot of that is going to depend on him playing better.
