The New England Patriots head coach was seen at an airport while away from his team, and the moment quickly became a talking point. He had stepped away to seek counselling during an ongoing controversy linked to NFL insider, Dianna Russini. Mike Vrabel, 50, was spotted at Salt Lake City International Airport on April 25, 2026. According to photos published by Page Six, he was inside a gift shop looking through clothes. He eventually picked a baby blue women’s sweatsuit and moved quickly to the counter to pay. An eyewitness told Page Six that he was “speed-walking to the register” after making his choice. One detail that stood out was that Vrabel was still wearing his wedding ring. 

His wife, Jen Vrabel, was not seen with him at the time. Reports say the family owns a home in Park City, Utah, which explains why he was in that area during his time away. This trip came right in the middle of the 2026 NFL Draft, specifically on Day 3. Even though it was an important time for the team, Vrabel had already decided to step away for personal reasons. The situation connects back to the ongoing talk about his relationship with Dianna Russini, which has been under public discussion for weeks now.

Before leaving, Mike Vrabel shared a message about why he needed this break. In a statement to ESPN on April 22, 2026, he said, “I promised my family, this organisation, and this team that I was going to give them the best version of me that I can possibly give them. In order to do so, I have committed to seeking counselling, starting this weekend.” He added: 

“I have always wanted to lead by example, and I believe this is what I have to do to be the best husband, father and coach that I possibly can be. This is not an easy thing for me to admit, but it is one that I know will make me a better person.”

According to ESPN reporter, Mike Reiss, the plan was for Vrabel to spend the weekend with his family outside Massachusetts. He and his wife, Jen, have been married since 1999 and have two sons, Tyler and Carter. During the draft, there was some confusion about whether Vrabel was in touch with the team. Initially, ESPN’s, Peter Schrager said the Patriots were in “constant contact” with him. Later, he corrected that update on social media, explaining that both sides chose not to disturb his time away. That update matched what Patriots executive, Eliot Wolf shared after the draft. Speaking to reporters, Wolf said the team decided that Vrabel’s break should remain fully private. The only contact was a message earlier in the day, checking if everything was okay.

Vrabel returned to the team facility on Monday, according to multiple reports. The larger controversy started earlier when Page Six published photos of Vrabel and Dianna Russini together at a luxury resort in Arizona. Russini is married to Kevin Goldschmidt, and they have two children. Both Vrabel and Russini had earlier said their relationship was strictly professional. Vrabel even called other claims “laughable.” However, more images later surfaced, including older photos from March 2020 that appeared to show the two sharing a close moment at a New York City bar. These reports have kept the story active and under public watch.
